The City of Parkersburg reminds residents that Unit Base Pricing for garbage goes into effect on April 1, 2002. Residents will be allowed up to one 33 gallon bag or container per week.
Several small bags of garbage or any container larger than 33 gallons will not be collected or emptied. It is mandatory that all garbage (including all individual garbage bags) be placed into one 33 gallon bag or container, even if the bag or container is only partially filled.
Any garbage in excess to the allowed 33 gallons must be placed in a specially purchased bag, yellow with special markings. These bags may be purchased at City Hall or the Parkersburg Recycling Station, (located north of the Second Street railroad tracks, east of the city shed). Bags will be sold in rolls of 10 for $10.00. Garbage in addition to the allowed one 33 gallon bag or container that is not in the specially purchased bags will not be collected after April 1, 2002
The Parkersburg City Council reminds residents that this is a state mandated requirement. Failure to implement this plan can result in a $5,000 per day fine. This state mandated requirement is in place to encourage Iowans to limit the amount of waste that is sent to its landfills through reducing, reusing, recycling, and renewing.
